Birch Plywood Spool Holder & Threads

This thread storage rack holds 5 reels of thread and comes with a starter set of five of the most common Gutermann Sew All colours we sell: Black 000, White 800, Red 156, Navy 310 and Light Grey 38. (We plan to off this item without the threads too)

The organiser is 17.5cm wide, 3cm deep and stands just under 8cm high. The pins for the threads are 6cm high and spaced 3.5cm apart. The pegs are approx. 6.5mm diameter.

The design used a grid-like system (see pictures) so that multiple thread holders can be configured into difference combinations. For example - a grid of threads 5x5 or perhaps a long row of 1x20..?

The materials used are all recycled - They come from Mat's DIY hoard of bits of wood - think of it like a fabric hoarders addiction except in odd sized pieces of timber!

The plywood base has been oiled with an eco-friendly oil, which is made from plant based ingredients by sustainable practices. This will protect and enhance the wood for many years to come.

Please note: The bobbins shown in one of the pictures are a larger bobbin than standard sewing machine bobbins. Standard ones won't fit on the wooden pins but we are looking at another design for this...

The story behind this item

This spool holder has been handmade by Mat - Frumble's own! We wanted to start to draw on of of our skills from outside our sewing business and see how we can combine them to bring some new products to the business.

Since Mat completed his degree in Product Design well over 20 years ago, he has only really used the skills learnt on projects for his home.

This little product is something Mat designed and made for a birthday gift for Monica.
