Tilly and the Buttons Jessa Shorts in Gold Dots Denim Chambray
We took a super exciting delivery of Tilly and the Buttons two new patterns this week and I did not waste time to get started on BOTH!
The patterns were The Romy multi style dress and top and the Jessa trousers and shorts.
Check out our other blog post to see how I got on with the Romy top.
I've decided on the denim cotton chambray fabric. I wanted some light summer shorts so this fabrics was perfect for it. I love the golden dots details on it!
I used some cute sewing machines cotton poplin for the waistband lining because why not!
Because of the lightness of the fabric I used a normal zipper instead of a heavy-duty jeans zip that would be an overkill.
I wanted my short to be light, breezy and loose so went for a bigger size than suggested. However, because it's a hight waist pattern, it didn't quite work so I had to adjust it after i finished stitching the waistband! I couldn't bear to unpick it all and it didn't actually make any difference on the outside look. Apart from looking better on me. I did unpick the inside legs and trimmed it a couple of centimetres back. It worked but i'll be making a size or two smaller next time.
Finished off the front with a coral Prym snap button. I'm a bit addicted to them! so easy to add and looks so nice!
After I finished the shorts, I decided to add a little patch of HappyHide vegan leather to the back. At first, I was going to just make random holes on the patch but nothing is ever random in my projects so decided to spell the words ME MADE and pierce dots on it. i traced it on the back with a pencil an then followed the lines. I used the gold shine version and it worked beautifully! Just made the whole garment more special and unique! I love it!
Ta-dah! Now they're finished!
I'll probably make another version with a heavier fabric like one of our cotton canvas as I can choose between so many cool colours! Or perhaps I'll make a trouser version!
I loved the nice deep pockets! I can fit my phone comfortably. Or my hands!
All in all I love my new shorts and Romy top set :)
Can wait to see what everyone else will make with the new pattern.
Happy sewing!

These shorts look absolutely super in that fabric! I’m disappointed you’ve sold out of it on your website!
